Engetsu Island is loved as the symbol of Shirahama. While it’s official name is “Takashina Island”, it is known as "Engetsu Island" due to the crescent-shaped cave in the center of the island which looks out to sea. The area is particularly beautiful during sunset – and has been voted as one of the “Top 100 Sunsets in Wakayama Prefecture”.
